Jaguar And The X200
EDM number 1071 in 1992-93, proposed by Mike O'Brien on 14/12/1992.
That this House is concerned by reports in the Observer newspaper on 13th December that Ford may be considering manufacturing the new Jaguar sports car, X200, in Germany, and the inadequate denials by Ford, and takes this opportunity to assert that Jaguar cars should be built at Coventry where they have a superb workforce and facilities which have created and maintained the high reputation of Jaguar cars; and therefore calls upon the President of the Board of Trade immediately to remind Ford of its commitments when it purchased Jaguar to keep manufacture in Coventry and to express the displeasure of her Majesty's Government at any possibility that these commitments might be broken in the future.
