Nuclear Test Victims And The 30-Year Rule
EDM number 1046 in 1992-93, proposed by David Alton on 10/12/1992.
That this House urges Her Majesty's Government to reconsider its decision to retain documents relating to the 1957 atomic tests in the South Pacific; calls for an independent assessor to determine whether there are any continuing national security reasons for the retention of the following documents detailing the decisions of the monthly meetings held in 1956 to discuss nuclear test questions: document DB/133/014 on aircraft safety, document DB/133/06 Part A on publicity, and Part B, retained for 50 years, document XY/273/012 on safety precautions and safety policies, and document XY/274/09 on indoctrination; and believes that the further retention of these documents is detrimental to the public interest.
