Justice For Japanese War Rape Victims
EDM number 1039 in 1992-93, proposed by Roger Godsiff on 09/12/1992.
That this House brings to the attention of Her Majesty's Government recent statements made by Mrs Jeanne Ruff-O'Herne before Japan's international public hearing on post-war compensation, the first European to recall publicly in Tokyo her sufferings as a war rape victim; notes that Korean and Filipino women suffered greater atrocities at the hands of Japanese Imperial Forces; asks that the Japanese Government be requested to make a full disclosure of Japan's complicity in war crimes offences during the Second World War as they have affected women; deplores the lack of action by the Japanese Government in its consideration of the issue of compensation for the women left alive; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to make as a minimum requirement a full and unequivocal commitment to support morally the actions of war rape victims and all other groups in their just fight for compensation from the Japanese Government.
