Bosnia And Chemical Weapons
EDM number 1015 in 1992-93, proposed by Paul Flynn on 07/12/1992.
That this House is alarmed that the Government has made no assessment of the danger of a possible environmental catastrophe posed by the HAK chemical weapons plant in the heart of the war zone in Tuzla in northern Bosnia, whose contents, it has recently been revealed, include chlorine 500 tonnes, mercury 30 tonnes, sodium chlorate 300 tonnes, sodium hydroxide 500 tonnes, hydrochloric acid 800 tonnes, sulphuric acid 120 tonnes, light benzene 400 tonnes, toluene 500 tonnes, dichlorobenzene 200 tonnes, calcium hypochlorine 120 tonnes and sodium hypochloride 800 tonnes; asks that, following reports that Dutch troops have been issued with chemical weapons protection suits, the Government will ensure that British forces in the area are afforded similar protection; and calls on the United Nations to redouble its efforts to end the conflict.
