Conduct Of Home Office Ministers
EDM number 1003 in 1992-93, proposed by Harry Cohen on 03/12/1992.
That this House deplores the action of Home Office Ministers in deciding to deport Mrs Shama Ferdous of 57 Grosvenor Road, Leyton who was admitted to this country as the wife of a British citizen, on the basis of denunciatory information almost certainly emanating from her husband, who had cruelly abandoned her; notes that they disregarded her claims that back in Pakistan she would be at risk from her husband's friends and family and that her former home has been destroyed in the recent floods; considers this action by Ministers to be cruelly sexist and to make a mockery of current requirements to consider cases compassionately; and notes that Ministers did not even have the courtesy to agree to meet the honourable Member for Leyton to discuss the case, as was the previous convention and custom where an honourable Member requests such a meeting.
