SIR JOHN MAY'S INQUIRY

EDM number 100 in 1992-93, proposed by Chris Mullin on 20/05/1992.

That this House is concerned at reports that Sir John May's inquiry into the 11 wrongful convictions arising from the Guildford and Woolwich pub bombings is about to be abandoned; believes that this was inevitable once it became clear that Sir John was unwilling to participate in a whitewash; notes that a decision to abandon the inquiry will spare Sir Peter Imbert, Commander Jim Nevill, Commander Bill Hucklesbury and Michael Hill QC the embarrassment of having to explain their role in achieving and sustaining these convictions; further notes that the reputation of the late Lord Havers will remain intact; and hopes that, if the inquiry is to be abandoned, the Home Secretary will have the courtesy to come before the House and explain why.

This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
