Hedgerow Protection
EDM number 99 in 1991-92, proposed by Alan Meale on 07/11/1991.
That this House is concerned that the Government have yet again failed to include in their annual legislative schedule, measures to protect Britain's hedges, especially as the latest figures on hedgerow loss, published on 21st October 1991 by the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology show that between 1984 and 1990 there was a net loss of 85.000 kilometres of hedgerow in England alone, a figure representing one fifth of all the country's hedges; and therefore calls upon the Government to act immediately to stop any further destruction of these valuable assets.
