Un Target Figures For Overseas Aid

EDM number 98 in 1991-92, proposed by David Alton on 07/11/1991.

That this House, calling to mind the participation of the United Kingdom in successive United Nations development decades and the repeated exhortations of successive international development strategies to give 0.7 per cent. of gross national product as official development assistance to developing countries, noting that United Kingdom giving for 1990 was only 0.27 per cent. of its GNP according to the OECD Development Assistance Committee, and noting the very great human need in many of these countries, encourages Her Majesty's Government to give priority to raising the level of official development assistance to the 0.7 per cent. GNP level within the next five years and to pledge to endeavour to maintain it thereafter at this level or above.

This motion has been signed by a total of 36 MPs.
