Actions Of Senior Management At Australian Mutual Provident

EDM number 843 in 1991-92, proposed by Doug Hoyle on 10/03/1992.

That this House expresses its concern at the actions of the senior management of the Australian Mutual Provident in proposing the closure of its United Kingdom Head Office at Croydon and transferring work to the Head Office of its subsidiary Pearl Assurance in Peterborough; calls upon Australian Mutual Provident to withdraw its proposals and to negotiate with the recognised trade union, the Manufacturing, Science and Finance Union, arrangements which provide continued employment in Croydon; notes that the proposed closure in July of this year is in breach of the promises given to the 300 staff that the Croydon site was safe and the future of the site would not even be considered for a period of five years, and that the loss of jobs inflicts yet another blow on employment prospects in Croydon where already 9 per cent. of those eligible to work are jobless; and believes that the Australian Mutual Provident job cuts are an unnecessary burden on the employees and the community and add another set of statistics to the rising loss of jobs in the insurance industry.
