Silverwood Colliery-Record Achievement

EDM number 838 in 1991-92, proposed by Peter Hardy on 10/03/1992.

That this House notes the very considerable achievement at Silverwood Colliery in Thurbergh near Rotherham, where production recently passed the previous annual record of 1.32 million tonnes; appreciates that this was achieved by a smaller workforce reaching levels of productivity which may be unmatched by the rest of British industry; offers its congratulations to all involved at this colliery; and expresses the view that such achievement should not be followed by further contraction of the mining industry which would reveal a short sighted disregard of the national interest.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
