Institute Of Terrestrial Ecology Banchory Research Station

EDM number 805 in 1991-92, proposed by Nicol Stephen on 04/03/1992.

That this House utterly condemns the attack by animal rights terrorists on the Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Banchory Research Station, which took place on 7th December last year, destroying a large part of the station; recognises that the work carried out at Banchory is of major importance to the environment and to animal welfare and is supported by organisations such as the Worldwide Fund for Nature, the Nature Conservancy Council and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds; congratulates the staff for their remarkable spirit and dedication in continuing the work of the research station despite the loss of both personal possessions and invaluable research data; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Education and Science to provide resources required to allow the National Environment Research Council to give an immediate commitment to re-building the research station on its existing site in Banchory, recognising that anything less than this will be seen as a victory for terrorism.

This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
