A27 Polegate-Lewes Road;amdt. Line 1:
EDM number 776A1 in 1991-92, proposed by Tim Rathbone on 28/02/1992.
leave out from 'House' to end and add 'welcomes the preparation of long-needed plans to improve the A27 from Lewes eastwards, and the A26 south to Newhaven, linking with improvements already in process round Pevensey and Polegate and round Brighton; accepts that road improvements need to cater for 21st century road traffic, in parallel with improvements in rail services, most particularly to the Channel; further accepts the present pressing need to relieve the already heavily-used east-west roads in the area (the A259 through East Saltdean, Telscombe Cliffs, Peacehaven, Newhaven, Seaford and East Dean, the A272 through Chailey and Newick and the B2192 through Lewes Ringmer and Laughton), and the north-south roads (on the west side of the Ouse Valley and on both sides of the Cuck Valley); believes that 'we are our environment' and road improvements have to be made with the least possible adverse effect on the magical surroundings of the South Downs and on the people who live in there, as well as in every way necessary to meet the spirit as well as the letter of European Community environmental directives; welcomes the extension of the initial consultation period to 13th March by the Department of Transport, at the request of the honourable Member for Lewes, so that all comments on the present proposals can be lodged in time with the Department's South East Construction Programme Division, Federated House, London Road, Dorking RH4 1S2; and looks forward to more detailed proposals for full consultation as soon as possible.'.
This is a ammendment to 776.
