European Community Money For Israel

That this House, in view of the persistent violations of the Geneva Convention and human rights of the Palestinian people by the Government of Israel, of the unlawful appropriation of Palestinian lands for Israeli settlers, most of them without historical links to this part of the world, and of the overt defiance of United Nations resolutions and policies of the European Community, finds improper and even scandalous the European Commission decision to provide ú173 million of financial assistance to the government headed by Mr Shamir which shows such contempt for just and peaceful arrangements, designed to give the region, the Palestinians and their own Israeli people a secured future; and urges Her Majesty's Government to immediately call for a re-discussion of this provision in view also of recent developments in Israel which are impossible to ignore and which mean that such money will no doubt be used directly or indirectly by the Israeli Government yet again to flout United Nations resolutions, the Geneva Convention and the rights of the Palestinian people.
