Conduct Of The Prime Minister (No.3)

EDM number 756 in 1991-92, proposed by Terry Lewis on 26/02/1992.

That this House is appalled that the Prime Minister, on his recent visit to Bolton and Bury, satisfied himself with a sanitized itinerary; notes that his visit largely consisted of a private lunch and joy-rides on a steam train and tram; notes that he failed even to acknowledge the problems caused by the failed policies he himself has endorsed since 1979; is especially angry that the had nothing to say to redundant and job threatened workers at British Aerospace; regrets he spoke no words of regret for 234 families in Bury, whose homes had been repossessed; is furious he chose to ignore the 40 per cent. increase in unemployment in Bolton West, 33.6 per cent. in Bolton North East, 60.4 per cent. in Bury North and 49.3 per cent. in Bury South, all since he became Prime Minister in November 1991; believes that the people of Bolton and Bury deserve better than to be treated as photo opportunities for a Prime Minister whose discredited policies have caused so much anguish; and looks forward to the time when the people of these proud Lancashire towns, with the addition of Salford and Wigan, will be given the opportunity to call him to account at a general election.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
