PATIENTS' RIGHTS IN SCOTTISH HEALTH BOARDS' PATIENTS' CHARTERS

EDM number 753 in 1991-92, proposed by Sam Galbraith on 26/02/1992.

That this House urges each health board in Scotland to include in its patients' charter information concerning patient's rights in relation to transfer from an NHS bed to a private nursing home, and in particular to include a clear statement that if an elderly patient is transferred from an NHS bed to a private nursing home, the responsibility for payment lies with the hospital and not with the patient or their relatives or the Department of Social Security and also to include information on the patient's right to a second opinion, and their right to be treated in the hospital of their choice, and by the doctor of their choice.
