Compensation For Asbestosis Victims And Their Families
EDM number 742 in 1991-92, proposed by Adam Ingram on 25/02/1992.
That this House congratulates the Channel 4 programme Scottish Eye, and its presenter Jimmy Reid for highlighting the alarming number of deaths in Scotland caused by asbestosis (mesothelioma) and the inadequacies of existing Scottish law which fails to provide for a proper process of compensation claims by victims of the illness and their families; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Scotland to bring forward as a matter of urgency and before the general election the necessary legislation approved by the Scottish Law Commission to allow families and victims of asbestosis to claim compensation for the loss sustained as a result of the illness.
