Conduct Of The Hon Member For Preston And Defence Industries

EDM number 720 in 1991-92, proposed by Keith Mans on 19/02/1992.

That this House notes that the honourable Member for Preston is opposed to exports of defence equipment, that she has never backed British Aerospace in its efforts to promote exports of its military aircraft, that she supports the policy of the Labour Party to cut defence spending by ú6 billion, which is more than the total cost of the Royal Air Force, that she is a member of a party which, when it came to power in 1964, immediately scrapped the TSR2 aircraft, which if produced would have been a world beater and that she supports the Labour Party's policy of creating a defence diversification agency but is apparently unable to specify what such an agency would produce which would employ the skills of the workforce of British Aerospace, now engaged in the highly skilled task of making military aircraft; and consequently calls upon the honourable Member to announce that she will not stand at the forthcoming general election since she is clearly unable to represent the interests of many of her constituents.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
