Employment Services Finance

EDM number 711 in 1991-92, proposed by Frank Cook on 19/02/1992.

That this House is angered to learn of the case of Stephen McNeil of Edwards Street, Eston, Cleveland, currently job club leader of the jobsearch project at the Anchorage in Stockton on Tees; notes his commencement in post on 9th October 1991 and the rapid recognition by the Employment Services of his sterling worth as evidenced by their advertisement in the Evening Gazette of 28th October 1991 which applauded his efforts in placing 20 people in work or on training courses; notes too his receipt on 15th January of his notice of termination to be effective on 28th February 1992; recognises that this termination is due entirely to withdrawal of funding of the project by Employment Services; questions why, so soon after a much publicised appointment announced with much praise, Mr McNeil, who proved so immediately successful in reducing numbers of unemployed in Stockton should be condemned to become once again an addition to these figures himself; considers it ironic that Mr McNeil's entitlement to state benefit upon termination will exceed measurably the amount he has been proud to receive helping the jobless of Cleveland; and commends Stephen for his courage and candour in exposing yet another example of government agencies saying one thing one day for public consumption and doing another soon after at the behest of their political overlords.

This motion has been signed by a total of 16 MPs.
