Sun Alliance Insurance Redundancies In Bristol
EDM number 682 in 1991-92, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 14/02/1992.
That this House is appalled and shocked at the manner in which 700 employees of the Sun Alliance Insurance Company in Bristol were advised of a number of redundancies; is further dismayed that the company has refused and continues to refuse to establish a voluntary redundancy register to deal with possible job losses; notes that having consulted psychologists on the procedure they intended to use, the Company gave morning briefings of the number of intended redundancies and kept staff waiting at their desks all day whilst individuals were selected by management to be told they were potentially redundant and sent home; and believes that this treatment is totally unacceptable and tantamount to psychological torture both for those losing their jobs and those who spent all day in stressful circumstances in fear of being selected.
