Opencast Coalmining At Leigh, Wigan, Bolton, Salford

That this House deplores British Coal's application to undertake opencast coalmining at the Lomax Site, and the proposed Schofield opencast site; considers the potential threat to the environment, human health and local communities to be totally unacceptable; supports the local honourable Members, local councillors, local authorities, and residents' organisations, in their opposition to the proposals; and calls on the Secretaries of State for the Environment and for Energy to reject British Coal's applications.
