Health Services In The South East Thames Region

EDM number 668 in 1991-92, proposed by Bob Dunn on 12/02/1992.

That this House congratulates the health service in the South East Thames region on its achievements since the commencement of the Government's National Health Service reforms, including 5 per cent. more patients treated in hospital compared with last year, 18 per cent. more day cases, twice the number of heart by-pass operations, extra cataract and hip operations and a cut of 42 per cent. between March and December 1991 in the number of people waiting more than two years for hospital treatment; further congratulates the Guy's and Lewisham NHS Trust on a cut of 5 per cent. in waiting lists and 3,500 more patients treated than projected; welcomes the initiatives by general practioners' fundholding practices in the region, including consultant run outpatient clinics at a practice near Rochester; believes these achievements to be a tribute to National Health Service staff in the region working within the better management framework of the reforms; and believes that patients do not want the disruption of the health service threatened by the Labour Party.
