Health Services In Yorkshire

EDM number 667 in 1991-92, proposed by John Greenway on 12/02/1992.

That this House congratulates the health service in the Yorkshire region on its achievements since the introduction of the Government's National Health Service reforms, including a cut of half in the number of people waiting more than two years for treatment by December 1991; welcomes the extra theatre sessions introduced at St. James' University Hospital National Health Service Trust and the new surgical techniques pioneered at the Leeds General Informary National Health Service Trust; notes that a recent poll showed that 89 per cent. of patients in Yorkshire and Humberside are satisfied with hospital treatment in their area; believes these achievements to be a tribute to National Health Service staff in the region working with the better management framework of the reforms; looks forward to the benefits of the reforms being spread still further in the years to come; and condemns the Labour Party for its failure to produce any policies for the National Health Service or to offer the health service anything other than worthless promises and the prospect, if elected, of chaos and upheaval.
