Dumping And Illegal Subsidies And The UK Textile Industry
EDM number 641 in 1991-92, proposed by Bob Cryer on 06/02/1992.
That this House welcomes the forthright statement by Mr David Sutcliffe, Chairman of Benson, Turner of Bradford, at the British Yarn Show, Leicester, that trading abuses of illegal subsidies and unfair dumping by other countries' textile industries were being promptly reported, but that 'there seems to be inertia or indifference by our Government and civil servants'; urges the Government to take prompt action in the future to prevent the United Kingdom textile industry being completely destroyed by unfair and lethally damaging trading practices; and endorses the action of the Bradford Telegraph and Argus in highlighting the warning given of a senior figure in the textile industry.
