That this House believes that the United Kingdom coal industry is the cheapest and most efficient in Europe; agrees with the EC Energy Commissioner that Europe needs to sustain the British coal industry which is a vital energy source for the United Kingdom and the EC as a whole; supports the European Parliament group of mining area MEPs and the coalfield communities campaign; and joins them in calling on the Government to declare a moratorium on pit closures.
