Iraqi Government Economic Blockade Of Kurdistan
EDM number 601 in 1991-92, proposed by DN Campbell-Savours on 03/02/1992.
That this House notes that the Iraqi Government's blockade of Kurdistan is causing acute shortage of food and fuel throughout Kurdistan; notes that government allocations of food were cut to one third of pledged amounts in December and that no food at all has been delivered to Sulaymaniyah province in January; notes that the fuel shortage has now become critical, with the lack of kerosene for heating leading to illnesses and deaths amongst refugees, who now face winter temperatures regularly below -15oC; notes that, in spite of United Nations Security Council Resolution 688, calling for the end to repression in Iraq that there are frequent attacks along the front; and calls on the United nations to counter the blockade and take all steps necessary to ensure that humanitarian supplies urgently reach those in need.
