Problems Of The Recession
EDM number 587 in 1991-92, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 30/01/1992.
That this House condemns the Government's uncaring attitude in its failure to deal with the problems of the poor including 2.5 million unemployed, 10 million living on half the national average wage, one in four children living in poverty, 180,000 homeless in the United Kingdom, 34,000 of them in Scotland; and also expresses its grave concern for the 53,000 men, women and children living in bed and breakfast accommodation, for the families throughout the United Kingdom who have found it very difficult to pay off the mortgage repayments and also the small businesses that have been forced into bankruptcy because of the unwillingness of a failed Government to deal with a crippling recession.
