Proposed Closure Of Post Office In Swansea
EDM number 58 in 1991-92, proposed by Alan Williams on 01/11/1991.
That this House regards as cynical and calculating the way in which Post Office Counters Ltd. are proposing to close the post office in Wind Street just a year after closing their High Street office; believes that the Post Office has been brazenly manipulative in trying to avoid the outcry that would have met any concurrent announcement of the two closures; points out that Wind Street is the nearest post office for the many elderly and disabled people who live in the city's maritime quarter, whose distress has been expressed by Age Concern; is surprised that the closure move comes when there are proposals for the commercial rejuvenation of the area; calls upon Post Office Counters Ltd. to respond to the representations from the Right honourable Member for Swansea West, the city and county councils and all the ward city and county councillors, organisations representing the elderly and the disabled, the Swansea Chamber of Trade, the Union of Communication Workers and a petition signed by thousands of Swansea citizens; and believes that this ill-considered proposal should be abandoned.
This motion has been signed by a total of 24 MPs.
