Eradication Of Recovery Or Deduction From Compensation

EDM number 571 in 1991-92, proposed by Eddie McGrady on 28/01/1992.

That this House calls on the Secretary of State for Social Security and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to enter into consultations concerning the unfair recoupment from compensation that takes place where claimants are unable to work due to severe injury and have been in receipt of benefit in the intervening period; and also calls on the relevant Ministers to introduce amending legislation to section 22 and Schedule 4 of the Social Security Act 1984 and the Social Security (Recoupment) Regulations 1990 and Article 24 and Schedule 4 of the Social Security (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 and the Social Security (Recoupment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1990 which would result in the eradication of such recoupment procedures.

This motion has been signed by a total of 15 MPs.
