Labour Policy On Taxation
EDM number 547 in 1991-92, proposed by Richard Tracey on 23/01/1992.
That this House deplores Labour's continuing failure to reveal in debate its tax and spending plans; notes the comments of the honourable Member for Derby South, Official Report, 22nd January, column 400, 'we do not believe that most ordinary families in this country could afford to pay more tax'; believes this cannot be reconciled with Labour's plans amounting to an extra ú37 billion of spending; and finally notes with distaste their record in opposition of voting against all reductions on tax rates, following their previously disastrous record in government of invariably increasing the tax burden on the ordinary family they now pretend to protect.
