Future Of Mail Deliveries
EDM number 502 in 1991-92, proposed by Peter Hain on 20/01/1992.
That this House condemns proposals from Royal Mail management to abolish the second delivery in towns and to replace door-to-door deliveries in rural areas with American-style 'garden gate' post boxes; and calls upon the Government to abandon its proposals for backdoor privatisation of mail services and to retain a publicly-owned and controlled post office driven by high quality of service targets rather than maximisation of shareholder profits.
This motion has been signed by a total of 81 MPs.
