Conduct Of The BBC And Peter Mandelson
EDM number 50 in 1991-92, proposed by Tim Devlin on 31/10/1991.
That this House notes that Mr Peter Mandelson was appointed as a BBC adviser only after he had resigned as Head of Campaigning for the Labour Party; further notes that Mr Mandelson has been staying at the Cross Keys Inn, Guisborough, throughout the duration of the Langbaurgh by-election where it is acknowledged that he is attempting to mastermind Labour's lack lustre and flagging campaign; notes also that Mr Mandelson has been photographed as Campaign Co-ordinator in the Independent on Sunday, and named in a Labour Party document on the management of the Langbaurgh campaign; further notes the obvious conflict of interest in what is supposed to be an impartial public service; and calls on the BBC to terminate Mr Mandelson's appointment in the same way as it abruptly ended the current affairs appointment of Mr Graham Robb at Radio Cleveland when he became the Conservative candidate for Hartlepool.
