The Hon. Member For Livingston, Trident And The Nhs

EDM number 48 in 1991-92, proposed by Jim Sillars on 31/10/1991.

That this House noting that although he has rightly described the National Health Service as underfunded, the honourable Member for Livingston has failed to quantify by how much and refuses to give a commitment to a specific increased level; believes his reticence is due to the failure of the Labour Party to stand by its policy to scrap Trident and thus save vast sums of public money; reminds the honourable Member for Livingston and other Scottish Labour honourable Members that they sit in this House on an election manifesto pledge to cancel what they described as an expensive American Trident system; and calls upon them to explain to the Scottish people why they would get rid of Trident during the Cold War but now wish to place it on the Clyde when the Warsaw Pact has dissolved and why they have chosen this time of change towards peace in Europe to put nuclear bombs before National Health Service beds.

This motion has been signed by a total of 5 MPs.
