LIBERAL COUNCILLORS AND THE SAFEGUARDING OF PENSIONERS' INTERESTS
EDM number 477 in 1991-92, proposed by Peggy Fenner on 14/01/1992.
That this House notes that recent investigations into the affairs of Boroughline have revealed that during 1991 the company misused money from its pension funds, ú177,000 from the Kent County Council pension fund and ú21,000 from Scottish Equitable; notes that Boroughline has been owned and run until now by Liberal controlled Maidstone Borough Council and that three Liberal councillors, including Mrs Paula Yates, leader of the Council, have been members of Boroughline's board; expresses its concern about the effect on the pensioners had Boroughline collapsed; and calls for an investigation into the failure of the councillors to safeguard the interests of the pensioners concerned.
This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
