STAFFORDSHIRE'S SSA INCLUDING WORKSHOPS FOR THE BLIND AND DISABLED

That this House is appalled that, despite the strongest possible representations to the Government made by Staffordshire County Council, the standard spending assessment for Staffordshire, announced by the Secretary of State for the Environment, has been reduced to ú625,473 million; notes with concern that this ranks Staffordshire with an increase 6.5 per cent. below the average increase; notes with great concern that as a result the county council is being forced to cut back its social services budget by removing funding for services which are not statutory or life-threatening at precisely the time when, post-Pin Down, it should be expanding and developing services; views with the greatest alarm the threat facing the blind and disabled employees of the county council and their management team of the proposals to close a registered workshop for the blind and disabled; and calls on the Secretary of State urgently to review his decision to cut back Staffordshire's standard spending assessment.
