Closure Of Craigtoun Hospital

EDM number 423 in 1991-92, proposed by Menzies Campbell on 17/12/1991.

That this House regrets that the Scottish Office has sanctioned the closure of Craigtoun Hospital, St. Andrews, by Fife Health Board in the teeth of the opposition of the local community and its elected representatives, and without due regard to the concern of local general practitioners that the alternative proposals of the Health Board for the care of the frail elderly will be inadequate; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Scotland to take immediate steps to withdraw permission for closure until such time as arrangements for such care can be made as command the confidence of the public and of the medical profession in St. Andrews.
