Opting Out Of John Coupland Hospital, Gainsborough
EDM number 415 in 1991-92, proposed by Joseph Ashton on 17/12/1991.
That this House notes the strong objections by hundreds of people in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, who signed a petition objecting to the proposed opt-out of the John Coupland Hospital without a ballot of the staff, and that staff ballots on similar proposals at Brighton, Barnet, Hastings, Eastbourne, Birmingham, Burnley, Oldham, Cheshire, and many other units have resulted in overwhelming opposition to opt out proposals; notes that Mori opinion polls show massive rejection by the general public; and promises that, when a Labour Government is elected, hospital staff will continue to enjoy National Whitley Council conditions on pay, hours, overtime, holidays and pensions and will not be transferred to hospital trusts under Tory directors.
This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs.
