United States Involvement In El Salvador

EDM number 409 in 1991-92, proposed by George Galloway on 16/12/1991.

That this House remembers that between 11th and 13th December 1981, the United States of America armed, trained and financed the Atlacatl infantry battalion which murdered more than 1,000 men, women and children in the Morazan province of El Salvador, that this massacre was one of many perpetrated by the soldiers and mercenaries employed to ensure the continued United States domination of the Central American region from the Miami based Contras, armed from the proceeds of the North American arms sales to Iran, in exchange for United States hostages while British and other hostages rotted in dungeons and the British Government maintained that there could be no talking to terrorists; to the Junta in Guatemala; and predicts that this anniversary will be little noticed in the new world order.
