Conduct Of Minister Of State For Defence Procurement
EDM number 382 in 1991-92, proposed by Nigel Griffiths on 11/12/1991.
That this House deplores the attendance of the Minister of State for Defence Procurement, the honourable Member for Plymouth, Sutton, at the launch on 2nd December of 'Hitler's War' by David Irving, who denies the Holocaust; notes David Irving's television appearance on 27th November joking about the Nazi gas chambers, as well as his defence of Hitler's treatment of Jews and assertion that the gas chambers were invented for British propaganda purposes; notes David Irving's recent illegal activity in smuggling into the United Kingdom Fred Leuchter who was the subject of an exclusion order by the Home Secretary; recalls that the Minister accepted an invitation in 1982 to speak at the Monday Club meeting of the Oxford Union on 'Hitler: Diplomat, Statesman and Wit' and that he referred to Third World countries as 'Bongo Bongo Land' in 1983; recalls his lunch engagement with John Tyndall, leader of the British National Party; recalls his advice to companies in 1988 on avoiding the arms embargo on Iraq; and calls on the Prime Minister to take appropriate action.
