That this House notes the 40th Anniversary of the United Nations convention relating to the Status of Refugees; recognises that the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is responsible for the legal protection of over 17 million people worldwide who have had to leave their own countries as a result of persecution, war or violence; acknowledges the organisations including Amnesty International, Asylum Aid, Christian Aid, the Refugee Council and the United Nations Association and the individuals who attended the Human Rights Day Service of Observance in Westminster Abbey; and accepts the Dean's words of Dismissal "Cease to do evil, learn to do good: search for justice, help the oppressed, the poor, the starving, the elderly, the lonely, the imprisoned, to be just to the widow and the orphan, plead for the asylum seeker, the displaced person, the refugee and the immigrant'.
