Provision Of Services For The Single Homeless
EDM number 346 in 1991-92, proposed by Alan Meale on 05/12/1991.
That this House expresses the fear that the current plans of the Resettlement Agency, including the planned closure of four government-run homeless units in March 1991, will lead to a lesser service to the single homeless at a greater cost to the public purse; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to suspend its planned resettlement unit closure programme pending (a) the reconstitution of regional review teams so that they may identify the full extent of the single homeless problem in their areas and the provision currently available for direct access accommodation and for move-on facilities and (b) the re-convening of the National Advisory Steering Group, set up to pull together such regional reports and to produce recommendations as well as the creation and provision of services for this group of people in desperate need.
