Veal Crates

That this House notes with concern the decision of the EC Council of Agriculture Ministers not to ban the narrow veal crate; believes this system to be cruel in that the calves cannot turn round, are denied companionship and are fed an all-liquid diet; notes that although the veal crate is banned in the United Kingdom, 345,000 calves were exported last year, most of them for rearing in crates; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to prohibit the export of calves for rearing in a system which is illegal in this country.
