Newhaven-Dieppe Ferry Link

EDM number 320 in 1991-92, proposed by Eddie Loyden on 03/12/1991.

That this House affirms the vital importance of the Newhaven-Dieppe ferry link to the economy of Newhaven and the whole of East Sussex; notes that the continuation of the link appears now to be in considerable doubt due to a lack of public confidence, substantial operational losses and the impending opening of the Channel Tunnel; further notes that the closure of the link would lead to the loss of hundreds of jobs; calls upon the Secretary of State for Transport, even at this late stage, to use all possible channels to secure the continuation of this vital link; and commends the efforts being made by Lewes District Council to save this ferry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
