Civil Service Jobs Transfer
EDM number 311 in 1991-92, proposed by Andrew Welsh on 02/12/1991.
That this House deplores the proposals currently under consideration by the Home Office which could result in the re-dispersal of work from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board in Glasgow to London; notes that the Government claimed its 1987 decision to relocate the bulk of the Board's work in Glasgow vindicated their commitment to the dispersal of Civil Service jobs to areas of high unemployment; condemns the fact that with no logical reason for reversing this decision they are now considering reverse dispersal of the Hearing Section, with the possible loss of up to 50 jobs in Glasgow; praises the quality and efficiency of the work of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board in Glasgow; and calls upon the Home Office to reject out of hand the re-dispersal proposals now in front of them.
