Renewable Energy

EDM number 282 in 1991-92, proposed by John Hannam on 27/11/1991.

That this House congratulates the Government on the biggest contractual requirement to build renewable energy plant ever announced in this country or in any European country; welcomes the serious approach to tackling global warming by promoting renewable sources of energy through a record ú174 million research and development programme covering approximately 340 research projects at the present time; supports the significant creation of an effective market place for renewable energy through the establishment of a non-fossil fuel obligation; and further notes that the second Non-Fossil Fuel Obligation Order for Renewables announced in the House on 5th November covers 122 projects, 75 per cent. of which are entirely new and that the premium element of the price paid to the generators is 17 times greater than the miserable level of support given to renewables by the Labour Government throughout its last period in office.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
