EDM number 223 in 1991-92, proposed by Alistair Darling on 21/11/1991.
That this House is alarmed at the finding of very high levels of nitrogen dioxide pollution in Edinburgh and other British cities; calls on the Government to allow substantial investment in bus and rail transport for commuters, the encouragement of cycle routes, further pedestrianisation in city centres, consideration of road pricing schemes to restrict the entry of non-essential traffic to city centres, encouragement of car sharing amongst employees and the manufacture of efficient vehicles; and believes that the reduction of exhaust emissions is essential and that urgent and immediate action is required.
