Income Support Limits For The Elderly In Care
EDM number 206 in 1991-92, proposed by Alan Meale on 19/11/1991.
That this House is concerned by the continuing and increasing problems faced by older people in residential and nursing home care who cannot meet the shortfall between the level of fees charged and income support limits; acknowledges the growing pressure on voluntary organisations to meet the shortfall by topping up residents' income or by struggling to keep fees in their own homes as near income support limits as possible; calls for the abolition of the age differential whereby two residents receiving identical care may receive different levels of income support because of their different ages; and urges Her Majesty's Government to take immediate action to alleviate the situation.
