Axing Of The Fourth Battalion, Royal Regiment Of Wales
EDM number 200 in 1991-92, proposed by Donald Anderson on 19/11/1991.
That this House deplores the proposed axing of the Royal Regiment of Wales's Swansea-based Fourth Battalion which results from the 50 per cent. cut in Territorial Army Infantry in Wales, effectively a two-thirds cut as surviving battalions will be cut from four to three rifle companies; and notes that not only would this cut, after no consultation with the Royal Regiment of Wales, lead to job losses and the loss of local financial benefits but, more particularly, it will deprive South West Wales of a well-tried resource in civil emergencies and a source of training in organisation and leadership of which local communities are justly proud.
