Activities Of The Chairman Of The Welsh Development Agency

EDM number 144 in 1991-92, proposed by Rhodri Morgan on 13/11/1991.

That this House disapproves of the itinerary of the current Inward Investment Mission of the Welsh Development Agency to Japan, Australia and the USA, being undertaken by Dr Gwyn Jones, Chairman of the Agency, Mr Ian Rooks, its Executive Director for Marketing, and Mr Simon Cohen of Lowe Bell and Company, the Chairman's personal public relations executive, including in particular the stay booked at the Beachcomber Hotel in Tahiti from 15th November to 17th November, whereby little or no conceivable inward investment might be attracted to Wales; and further urges the Secretary of State for Wales to call Dr Jones to account for this extravagance in his conduct of the Agency's public business and to ensure that at the earliest opportunity directors and executive staff are appointed at the Agency of sufficient seniority and independence to exercise due restraint and control over the Chairman's stewardship of its affairs.

This motion has been signed by a total of 14 MPs.
