Compensation For British Nuclear Test Veterans (No.1)
EDM number 122 in 1991-92, proposed by Ernie Ross on 11/11/1991.
That this House congratulates Tyne Tees Television on its excellent 'Children of the Bomb' programme which revealed disturbing new evidence of cancers and deformities amongst the children of British nuclear test veterans; notes that Her Majesty's Government has stated on many occasions that it would pay compensation to veterans of British nuclear tests if, on the balance of probabilities, a causal link between illness and these tests could be established; believes that the fact that adrenal cancer is found in 4 in 2,500 of children of nuclear test veterans, as against 1 in 100,000 of children of non-nuclear test veterans, should be evidence enough for any fair, objective government; encourages the Government to investigate the statistical and scientific evidence gathered during research for the programme; and calls upon the Government to, at long last, pay just compensation to the veterans of British nuclear tests and/or their families.
