BRITISH TELECOM'S FAILURE TO HONOUR UNDERTAKINGS
EDM number 110 in 1991-92, proposed by Terry Lewis on 07/11/1991.
That this House recalls that early in 1990 British Telecom undertook to issue information to subscribers in the May round of bills regarding the newly introduced scheme of compensation for victims of telephone chatline abuse; is appalled that this undertaking to the Director General of OFTEL remains unfulfilled; notes also that the existence of the scheme is not being admitted by British Telecom billing offices to aggrieved customers; recognises that British Telecom's reluctance to act positively in this matter is not surprising since it still accrues massive profits from these services; and therefore calls upon the Director General of OFTEL to use his powers to ensure that British Telecom complies with the undertaking given as a matter of urgency.
